A Safe Place to Rest

What is Thursday Cafe?  We have worked in conjunction with All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester who has provided us with indoor space on Thursday afternoons.  The intent of the Cafe is to provide a place where all feel welcome and where the dignity and welfare of all guests are affirmed. For those who may not have a safe place to sleep at night, there is the option of sleeping on air mattresses for a few hours which provides a short respite from constant vigilance on the streets. For all, Worcester Fellowship clergy and trained ministry volunteers have been available to listen and to talk.

We have celebrated with folks when they’ve been housed. We’ve celebrated periods of clean or sober time, anniversaries of freedom from violence and incarceration, successful treatments and surgeries, reunions with children, and the prospects and realities of finding a job that provides hope for moving from homelessness permanently.  Along with providing safe respite and spiritual companionship, the Cafe space allows us to provide a hot meal, sandwiches, socks, underwear and clothing.

_______

Donation needs for Thursday Cafe? Our ‘material overhead’ is pretty much the cost of food/liquids/paper supplies and cotton socks. We then provide our guests with more cotton socks and much needed men’s briefs (all sizes), women’s underwear/bras (all sizes), toiletry items (excluding mouthwash and hand sanitizers as they contain alcohol), women’s feminine hygiene products, coats, gently used seasonal clothing and footwear based upon donated items received from our supporting churches, schools and private groups/families.
