Youth Immersion Event
ReachOut Worcester is co-sponsored by the Worcester Area Mission Society (WAMS) and Worcester Fellowship, a member of the Central Association of the Massachusetts Conference of the UCC that is dedicated to ending isolation through pastoral care and nurturing community. ReachOut Worcester offers Greater Worcester-area youth (ages 13 and up) and their leaders an 18-hour overnight immersion program and the opportunity to increase their awareness of the social issues and assets of urban communities like Worcester, while engaging in hands-on service with fellow community members. Program leaders are Mary Robbins, Director of Community Engagement at WAMS, and the Rev. Warren Hicks, Executive Director and Pastor of Worcester Fellowship.
At ReachOut Worcester during the 18 hour period, participants join ‘ROW’ staff and Guides to offer food and “care packages,” but most importantly, a kind word and a listening ear to people in need. These activities are preceded and followed by times of engaging in reflection and sharing with other youth and adults who share your concern about homelessness. You will also prepare to share your experience in your home setting.
ROW is typically offered in November and February and these events are usually “sold out,” so please plan accordingly. Registration will be closed once we have 4 groups or 30 youth registered, whichever comes first. Keep checking for our next weekend later in 2018.
